Arizona town where Art and History meet. It is South
of Tucson and North of Rio Rico and Nogales. An artist colony with many
art shops and products created by local artists and artists from all
around the US and many other countries. You will find over 80
independent shops and galleries in the Tubac Village. There are lots of
products from Mexico displayed in Tubac. The Tubac Center of the Arts
provides a full range of arts programs and exhibitions. More than 100 businesses now line Tubac's streets. A full day can be enjoyed wandering
through art galleries and gift shops. There are a variety of local
restaurants available for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Tubac's many
bed and breakfast places means that your visit to Tubac doesn't have to
end when the shops close.
The small
A historic area of Southern AZ
The history of Tubac, AZ begins in1691 when Padre Kino establishes a
mission at Tumacacori, and Tubac becomes the mission ranch. The name
Tubac is first recorded in church records by Father Joseph Agustin de
Campos in1721. In 1752 the Presidio (fort) of San Ignacio de Tubac is
established, the first European Settlement in Arizona. In 1775 Juan
Bautista de Anza and colonists leave Tubac to settle San Francisco.
Toribio de Ortero receives the first Spanish Land Grant in1789. In 1853
the Gadsden Purchase puts Tubac in the USA. Arizona's first newspaper,
The Weekly Arizonian is published in Tubac on the states first printing
press in1859. In 1885 Tubacs first schoolhouse is built. It is the
second oldest remaining schoolhouse in Arizona today. Arizona is
admitted to the union as the 48th state in 1912. Dale Nichols
establishes the Tubac School of Art in 1948. Tubac Presidio State
Historic Park is established as Arizonas first state park in1958. In
1959 the First Annual Tubac Festival of the Arts is held.
Golf Resort and Spa
Just thirty-five minutes from Tucson, you will find a surprising
sanctuary where luxurious accommodations combined with lush landscaping
and towering old growth cottonwoods make up the Tubac Golf Resort and
Spa. The centerpiece of the resort is a 27 hole golf course. The
original 18 holes were designed by Red Lawrence and the final 9 holes
were added in 2006 by Ken Kavanaugh. The tree lined fairways make the
course challenging for golfers of all skill levels. Many scenes from
Kevin Kostner's 1996 movie "Tin Cup" were filmed here.
Real Estate
You can find some great buys
on land and homes in Tubac, AZ. This is an area that will experience
some amazing growth in the next few years. At 3,500 feet above sea level
the climate here is excellent. It is 7 to 10 degrees cooler in the
summer than Tucson or Phoenix. The temperatures will average above 70
degrees on winter afternoons. With our aging population here in this
